Are you one of those people at seethe with jealousy every time you see another person with flawless hair and make-up? Do you own enough products to fill up the make-up counter at Boots but have bugger all idea how to use them or what colours work for you?
I'm right there with you, darlings. It seems that everyone out there is a cosmetic guru and mini make-up artist these days...everyone but us. What's a gal (or guy - it IS 2012) to do?
Well I think I may have found an answer. For those of us out there who happen to be a bit useless and clueless when it comes to make-up application there appears to be a solution in the form of make-up tutorial kits from the lovely people at bareMinerals.
Ok, so I know these kits aren't exactly new but what they are is PRICEY! I'd been eyeing up this kit for months but never dared buy it because it was £27. After a little extra money for busting my ass at work, I decided to finally take the plunge and treat myself.

Now, I'm a slightly "alternative" girl. Not particularly from any scene or stereotype, but I do like the darker things in life and my make-up is no exception. The Rocker Eye kit looks absolutely perfect to learn how to apply dark shadows without looking like I'd been punched in the face during a mosh-pit brawl.
The question now....does it work?
First, let me explain the kit a little bit. It has three mineral eye colours - Black Leather, Rock Star and 1980s - and a double ended Rock 'n'Roll brush. The very pretty pink, grey and white box has a fold out section on two eye looks you're able to try out with the products; Soft Rock and Heavy Metal.
It talks through the application step by step and teaches application methods using your brush (Swirl, Tap, Pat is like a mantra rather than a method on this box).

I tried the soft rock look and I did alright for a first attempt. The instructions are easy to follow - even for a clueless twat like me - and the pictures help a lot too. I would recommend you keep some eye friendly removal milk/gel and cotton buds close by to sweep away any mistakes.
My main boo-hoo about the mineral colours is the amount of fall out. I tapped the brush like a lunatic and still had so much fall out that I looked like I got smacked around the face with a mirror ball.
Another drawback is the price. This set me back £27 on Amazon which isn’t the fairest price considering the amount of product you get in each little tub (and you pay more at bareMinerals counters in department stores). However, the colours last a very long time once applied and can be made more dramatic by adding a touch of water to the brush before application. The powders themselves are mineral based making them much kinder to more sentive skins and better for the environment too. The brush is fantastic and has been made to a really high quality with soft bristles that don't constantly fall out.
There are other bareMinerals tutorial kits available. They include eye lining, Getting started with all application, Lips eyes cheeks, intro to eyes etc
I recommend purchasing from Amazon as it's cheaper, but the bareMineral's website is lovely and informative too!!
